Prelude, Mission, and Resolution

Prelude

Haz'rd Vulp
After they had gotten back there was pats on the back all around for a good job done. There were a lot less casualties then there generally were, and Haz'rd was thanked for helping to reduce some of the losses.

He had been bothered the most by the skinnings, and even though Vulpen are supposed to be strong with their personal issues, he felt he had to go to one of the elders. At the wise old age of thirty-six, the older elder in Haz'rd's village knew he was a few years from death, and before he shuffled back into the ground in the great circle, he wanted to share his wisdom.

They talked for a good long while before the elder finally revealed something that was supposed to be held in the strictest confidence between the Maqku and the Elder. There were a few skinnings in the far East of Vulpen territory, and the Maqku had said that Aqku must have penetrated defenses and have been doing it. The Elder knew differently; as a few scouts had to hold themselves back as they watched Maqku soldiers doing the skinnings.

The Elder told Haz'rd that if he wanted to do anything, there would be no official support from the Vulpen people at large.

Sylus Horonto
Back in the corporate building, a structure that looked near collapse, Sylus was thanked for not turning, and still being at least near the battlefield when the fight ended, since it meant that the company would make a little bit more. Though besides that thanks, he was mostly looked over by his superiors in the company.

He went to work on a chemical that when added to the power train of the train, would render the smoke invisible, and make it harder to be spotted by the Aqku when they would start a full-scale invasion into their territory.

While he worked he had no idea of certain forces that were gathering around the city he was in. A very powerful man could soon be brought down, and if things went the wrong way, the city could end up in a small war.

Nenimeindrol
As he went North he noticed a little post on the side of the road that said, "Welcome to Norteset, land of the Northwestern hillscape." He thought to himself that walking the hills would provide him with more strength in reverence to his God.

The sun began to set, and Nenimeindrol found a nice place to rest his head. As he lay on the ground, he wondered what the ocean would be like when he finally got to see it.

Mission

Haz'rd Vulp
After he was told what was what, Haz'rd set out to find the Maqku, and tossed a few ideas around in his mind. There were a few Vulpen he had a bond too on the way home from battle, and decided that he and those three would go and find the Maqku.

Heading East Haz'rd talked with a few elders in other villages, and even had a chat with a couple of Maqku farmers. The farmers said that they had been told to be more alert since some Aqku had slipped into the area. Though the elders mostly shared the same sentiment that the elder in Haz'rd's village did, "The Maqku must be punished."

Continuing on East over the river, the Maqku's trail was picked up. Villages in the this part of the Vulpen nation were a bit less open then the other side, but news of skinnings spreads fast. Over here it was almost openly admitted that the Maqku were behind it, and that more then one group were out looking for them.

Haz'rd and his three companions got lucky, as they got a scent of something odd in the air, and followed it too the river. They traveled upstream towards the edge of Maqku/Vulpen territory, and found seven men with Vulpen skins hanging off their bodies. They carried big guns, and with how many skins they had, likely knew a thing or two about dealing with Vulpens.

The group knew that Haz'rd was the one fully leading them, and it was he who would have to decide what to do.

Choices-
A- Attack
1. Full frontal assault, guns blazing.
2. Sneak attack before they cross the border.
3. Guerilla style, attack, retreat, repeat.

B- Captives
1. Torture them to get information.
2. Torture them for the fun of it.
3. Mixture of both.
4. No captives.

Sylus Horonto
When he got to his rented place, Sylus noticed a note in the kitchen area. Rent increase for the third time this year. He figured he would have to cut back on one of his side research projects to cover it.

There was the local newspaper, which he read cover to cover, then after setting it down picked up a book on chemical interactions. As it was nearing dark there was a knock on the door.

Answering it there were three men in oddly dark clothing. The one in front of the other two, and also noticeably shorter, asked if they could come in. Sylus agreed, since if they were muggers they could have just forced themselves in.

Seating was limited to Sylus and the short man. They sat, and the man revealed he was an acquaintance of his father. His father had recommended Sylus, since it seemed like it would be a good line of work for him, with what the short man was offering.

There would be a little bit more pay, and an increase in hours. The work wouldn't be much different from what he was doing now, likely different applications, but not much more. Adding in just before he left, the short man said there would be advancement opportunities available.

They shook hands, and the short man told Sylus where to go if he wanted to follow through with the proposition.

Choices-
1. Accept the deal
2. Decline the deal

Nenimeindrol
The hills were a bit a ways yet, but Nenimeindrol still had an urge to go and see them. There was something about being on the crest of one, and being able to see all around that gave him a bit of excitement.

A few miles from the hills he stopped in a town were he was waylaid due to a storm. Outside of the inn he was at, there was darkness something fierce. It was pitch black, and thunder shook the building to its core.

Deciding he would stay the night, Nenimeindrol paid the barkeep and went up to his room. He tried to sleep but found that he couldn't with lightning right outside the window, and thunder coming seconds later.

Since he couldn't sleep he decided to pray, and think of how his journey could help the reverence of God. As he prayed he felt the Power that he had known as a child swell up inside of him. Minutes passed, and although Nenimeindrol knew it had only been a few minutes, it had felt like hours instead.

The Power seemed to have worked without him calling on it directly, but the storm subsided. There was no more rain, no more lightning or thunder, and the moon shone in through the window.

In the morning Nenimeindrol left the key just behind the bar counter and headed out. As he neared the edge of town an older gentleman hobbled along, and took pause when they were about to pass. He raised his arm and called to him in a voice that seemed to have trouble speaking.

"Y-young sir. I was w-wondering if I-I couldn't bother you for a moment of your time for s-some help, please?"

Choices-
1. Help the man.
2. Continue on your way

Resolution

Haz‘rd Vulp
He knew what he wanted to do, and set out doing it. The Maqku had a camp going, and only five of them were there at the moment. Two Maqku against four Vulpen was no problem, and they were taken care of silently. Back at the camp they watched, and wondered which was the leader, as that would be the one they would hold for information back at the village.

After a time they figured on one man, and planned to take him alive. Two groups were formed, and all at once they fired. Haz’rd hit and killed a man with his first shot, but the other three had missed. Though the Maqku weren’t surprised by the ambush, they were surprised by what was happening. They all ducked down near the bushes, and when they saw smoke rise from a shot they would fire back.

In one of the first few shots from the Maqku, an unlucky shot for a Vulpen was caught by his eye socket. The Vulpen next to him shuddered as he saw the hole in the back of his comrade’s head as the body had fallen to the ground. Anger welled up inside of the warrior that he blindly rushed into the four remaining Maqku.

Luckily they were reloading at the time, but even with the one Maqku that was cut open and taken out, the knives of two Maqku sliced open muscles in the warrior’s upper leg, torso, and one strike went straight into his heart.

There was chaos as they reloaded their weapons. Shots fired from the woods near them, and another Maqku was dead. They returned shots blindly, hoping they would hit the two Vulpen firing. Luck in that endeavor would not come.

A stalemate of sorts took place, as Haz’rd and his remaining companion were low on ammunition. In his mind Haz’rd hatched a plan. Kneeling he took up a large rock and moved to the flank of the Maqku. He took aim at the leader’s head and scored a direct hit to his cranium. Though he figured that the Maqku would have a thick skull, the leader went down to the ground. He called out that if the other two surrendered they would be spared.

They quickly dropped their weapons and the two Vulpen walked up to their captives. Haz’rd and the other had rage, and in a blind moment there was a shot, and seconds later another. Both of the Maqku now had very large holes in their faces.

The Maqku leader was tied up and left for a while as Haz’rd and the other dug graves for the skins that had been taken. They thanked them for their life, and put them into the ground, along with the two that had been killed in the battle. The Maqku were partially buried, as Haz’rd thought their stinking corpses should not remain to know the world in comfort. Before they took the leader back to the village, each Maqku got a large serving of Vulpen piss on their face.

It didn’t take before nightfall that the two were back in the village. Chairs weren’t something well known in Vulpen culture, so being tied up on the floor was where the Maqku would remain. He was stripped of his clothes and threatened with having charcoal on his skin if he wouldn’t cooperate.

Invectives were spoken from the Maqku, and on his back he was kicked, while a red-hot coal was dropped on his chest. There were screams, and smiles spread across the faces of the Vulpen gathered outside the hut were the interrogation was occurring.

Certain questions were asked, but the answers they didn’t want to hear came out the Maqku’s mouth. A great deal was given, however, and certain things were revealed. The corruption of the Maqku, especially towards the Vulpen, at the political level was given out. The distrust in the military was also talked about. Financially it was told that Vulpen skins fetched quite a bit. Most importantly, the person that was supposed to receive the skins was given out. It was surprising since the person was considered by Vulpen elders to be friendly towards their culture. This would not be something that could be allowed to continue; a message must be delivered.

Before that, however, the Maqku had to be dealt with. He died after about a half an hour of torture, but the widows of some Vulpen got their chance at him. They threw rocks, cut him with their claws, and a knife was implanted in him just above his shriveled penis. Out of it all that caused him to scream the most.

After he died his skin was sliced off, and in the moment the companion of Haz’rd decided to wear it, and mock the corpse of the Maqku. It was unfortunate that three Maqku soldiers had made their way through the crowd outside, only to see one of their highest-ranking officers in the area face on a Vulpen.

There was an attempted attack, but the three soldiers were knock to the ground and didn’t get the chance to fire. It was known that this would bring retribution, but the soldiers weren’t killed, and only the guilty had been punished. This would likely bring about a great deal of change, but it was something that the Vulpen would face with the strength of generations behind them.

Sylus Horonto
Three knocks on the door of the building he had been directed too, and the door opened. The man he had talked with before had thanked him for coming and asked for his decision. Sylus told him that he agreed, that he wanted to join. A smile crossed the man’s face, and he seemed very happy about this.

They went into an office, and the man had a frank discussion with Sylus. This was for people who wished to be covert operatives, and further the cause of the Maqku from the inside. There would be a great deal of obfuscation going on, and Sylus was told that often he would not know if he was doing the right thing or not.

There would be cold-blooded murder, he was told, and he solemnly nodded. The possibility of death was also there, especially if a venture was made into Aqku territory for reconnaissance purposes. Sylus took in the information he was given and nodded through it all, asking questions for clarification here and there.

Nenimeindrol
He followed the old man back to the shack he lived in. There was a hatch on the floor in the corner, and the old man told him that his food stores were down there and that he was having particular trouble with his back today.

So down he went into the cellar, fetching a few foodstuffs, and bringing them back up for the man. He thanked him very much, and asked Nenimeindrol to have a seat. Sitting the old man thanked him for his help.

He then told him that he was the Pious for this area, and asked him if he was responsible for letting up the rain that was watering the plants for the local farmers. Nenimeindrol said he wasn’t aware that that’s what the storm was for, and that he hadn’t actually prayed for it to disperse. The Pious said he could tell if someone was lying, and thanked him for telling the truth.

A quaint smile was on the Pious’ face as he said that it was quite remarkable that God would grant comfort to an orderly for him to be able to sleep, but giving crops water that would feed hundreds was rejected. They sat and talked for some time on this, and Nenimeindrol, knowing how important this man was, enjoyed the conversation, and talked with him well into the night.

In the morning after he woke up after not even realizing he had fallen asleep, he was given a goodbye, as the Pious knew he wanted to see the ocean. Though before he left the Pious asked him to give a shot at talking about the Word by going to a church, and asking the preacher if he could have a few moments at the stand. Nenimeindrol thanked him, and went on his way.

The prelude for the next set of missions should be up by Wednesday, or possibly Friday.
