Prelude, Choices, and Resolution

Haz'rd Vulp
Prelude
After successfully assassinating the mayor, Haz'rd and his group stirred up some deep feelings of political mistrust in the town. Most people blamed the death on the political opponant in an election coming next year, but less then a handful of people knew the truth.

It was a few days before the man stopped by again. The first thing he did was give a heartfelt thanks, and relayed that through certain contacts, the attack on the Vulpen homeland had been indefinately postponed, ceding the need for those troops to be positioned elsewhere.

Action
There was a sense of victory in helping a faction the Maqku. Not only had they hurt their enemy, they had also helped their people in the process. They wondered what was going to happen now, but could only speculate what was going on in the Maqku states.

As the man had said, he came back that night with some treats for the Vulpen warriors. It wasn't the best tasting stuff, but the drinks were appreciated, and the food was sorely desired. They got to talking, and even though the man was a Maqku, he almost felt like kin to them.

He talked a bit about the corruption, and how by using that corruption against itself they were seeking to building a more powerful, more united, Maqku nation. There was a lot of resentment against the Vulpen, but the man talked about them being heroes to both sides for helping to bring about this glorious change.

There was the matter at hand of taking care of the individual who sent the poachers, and they talked about how to deal with that. The man said it would have to wait for a while, since he was one of their people. For now, at least, he could pursuade him to stop his activities, and look into why the man did it. Money was the most likely reason, but there could have been others.

Since the main reason for coming to the Maqku territory was to take care of that man, they weren't quite sure what to do now. The man said he could smuggle them back into their territory, if they so desired, or they could stay around and help out somemore. It would at least give them the chance to hear sooner about the man they had wanted to track down.

Choices
1. Stick around.
2. Go home.

Resolution

Haz'rd decided to leave three men behind while he and one other travelled back to Vulpen territory to help in the fight against the Maqku. The attack had been stalled, he thought, but he knew that it would come sooner or later.

Getting back was a simple enough task. They travelled at night, and guides lead went with them through the desert, around the burnt camp, past the deserted village, back to the forest where they belonged.

It was a few more days before they were home again, to a village that praised them as much as worried about the Maqku. There were other matters to attend to soon, such as the Winter Festival. That took precidence, food would come before fighting.

Nenimeindrol
Prelude
They rushed on their way hardly stopping. The journey took nearly a week of strong walking, but they made it.

Action
Nenimeindrol went straight up the stairs to see his Pious. He was lying in bed when he came in, so he knelt beside the Pious. He asked, "What has happened to you?"

Clasping Nenimeindrol's hand he answered, "I do not know, my son, but there is something I must give you before you are to go." Nenimeindrol was about to answer when the room shifted and everything turned to white.

All he could see around him was this white, and although it was pervasive, it seemed to have a certain glow to it. It swirled about and as his eyes adjusted he noticed that he was standing in front of his Pious. His first thought was to kneel, but he found it difficult to move.

"My son," started the Pious, "the war between our Aqku and the Maqku people will lead to the destruction of both nations. We are strong and united, but the people are growing weary of hearing their sons are dying. Though we try to keep strong the war on the hearts and minds of the Aqku people is losing. There is little telling how much longer we will have the will to continue fighting.

"My son, the other Piouses know this not, but if we do not seek peace with the Maqku, we will be destroyed. Their technology outpaces the special power God gives to our people, and if we do not learn to embrace this aspect of Maqku life, even if we find peace, it will start anew.

"I leave this knowledge to you, but as I am near to death, I give you my power. You have shown great potential for weilding the power God bestows, and I know you will use it well. It will take some time for you to learn these power to their fullest extent. For you to master the power I give you, you must go to the Monk's tower that is surrounded by mountains in the East.

"I know you will not fail me in the endeavors," and with that the world returned to normal, and Nenimeindrol found himself clutching the hand of his dead Pious. Standing up he knew he must honor him, but he had so many questions he needed to ask. Since he was to train as a monk, he knew he must start his vow of silence immediately, but the questions in his mind lingered.

Choices
1. Start the vow of silence.
2. Go to a bishop and ask questions.

Resolution
Nenimeindrol was in contemplation for a moment, stood, then went to the door. When he opened it he saw a nun and went into the monk's stance, a look of a person about to pray in silence. He then walked downstairs, out the door, and started towards the monestary.

Semper Fidelis
Prelude
He was well on his way now to becoming an officer for the Maqku. Months of training of both body and mind, mostly mind, were useful in getting him prepared to lead.

Action
There had been no news on an offensive going on in the far North for nearly a week. Semper would have thought it prudent to attack the Vulpen enemy while there was still surprise, but it seemed as though it was not to be.

Another matter was at hand, one that required a bit more attention the something happening on the other side of the Maqku nation. That matter was of an offensive that was to drive Maqku forces deep inside of Aqku lands. Most people weren't allowed in the meeting of the minds, but Semper had a chance to be in one of those meetings.

It was wondered how the Aqku had made so many forces appear to be marching into Maqku lands so quickly, and it was decided that they must have set up a system of mirrors to project the forces into the country. Semper thought this rediculous, but held his tonge.

The other main item discussed was how to avoid the railroads being destroyed in the mountains. It seemed as though every offensive met with an earthquake that took out a number of troops, and always seemed to come to destroy the effort to bring in rails. The thought that seemed to spread was that there was a machine that could bring about these earthquakes. That notion was tossed around enough that the people in charge decided to put Semper on it, and told him to start building a strike force to search it out.

Choices
1. Build a team comprised of men knowledgeable in the mountains, and with men good with defensive manuevors.
2. Build a team comprised of men knowledgeable in the mountains, and with men good with offensive manuevors.

Resolution
Off into the mountains went Semper with a band of men highly trained in defensive tactics. He was hoping he wouldn't need them, but he wanted to be safe, just in case.
