Prelude, Choices, and Resolution
Haz'rd Vulp
Prelude
After waking next to Lea’ra, Haz'rd started getting ready for another day. Almost immediately out of bed he started doing his morning exercises as quietly as he could, as to not disrupt the sleep of his unwoken companion.
There was much planning needing to be done, he thought as he was doing some crunches. The Maqku had retreated and weren't likely to return for a short while, at least, but they would be back eventually. There was the possibility of tapping the connection he had formed down South, but it would be risky to try and use that resource this early, and after they had prevented an invasion as it was.
About thirty minutes passed before Haz'rd moved onto the daily morning hygiene ruetine, something he figured he should try getting back into the groove of if he wanted to try to return to normality.
Action
Information gathering was the need of the day, and reports were coming in from all over the Vulpen lands to him now. In the Northwest there was a heavy blizzard that lasted for two days, but didn't touch anything but that far corner of Vulpen lands. Haz'rd knew they were a resourceful people, but recommended sending some military personnel to regain the pathways and restore normality in the area.
Scouting reports from the South reported that the Maqku had packed up and left the area. Messengers from elders told that since the believed death of Haz'rd by the Maqku high command relations had become easier. There was the suggestion to demonize the poachers, and to humanize the Vulpen to further help relations. Humanizing the Vulpens wasn't likely to happen, but there were some public relations materials sent through Maqku territory that put the poachers in less then favorable light.
In the central areas training had begun for many younglings to prepare them for life in the military. Haz'rd recalled having gone through the training in his younger days and felt for the pain the young Vulpen were feeling.
One other piece of news was that development for a cheap to produce type of munition had gotten a breakthru. The good news was that it was cheaper to produce then most kinds of munition, the downside was that it could only be used by a certain design of gun.
The last thing of the day was having a meeting with a man from the Maqku lands. Since Haz'rd was supposed to be dead he was referred as Zarh'd. He didn't particularly like the name, but one of the elders informed him that it was the name of a great warrior from a time long ago.
Into the Haz'rd command hut walked a so-so looking man. Recognizing the man immediately as the one who had set things in motion to have things go better for the Vulpen, Haz'rd stood and gave a bow, before sitting back down.
"Hello Mr. Zarh'd," said the man with a chuckle, "I trust everything is well?"
"Leave," Haz'rd ordered to the guards in his native tongue. Turning to the man and speaking in the common tongue, "Yeah, I'd say so. On the 'morrow I's planned to set defenses for the coming attack."
The Maqku man gave a strange look and a slight smirk, "We've taken care of the problem. You won't have to worry about your lands being invaded."
A nearly unheard growl escaped from Haz'rd, "Fer now. What about when the spring comes? They could come at any time, and we're preparing for that."
"You have nothing to fear," the Maqku man said in a close to matter-of-fact voice, but Haz'rd still harbored doubt, "But to the business at hand. Your men performed better then expected, and they continue to do so even as we speak. My organization would be delighted to have a dozen more teams like it. We could pay them well, and you would see something out of it as well, along with your people. What do you think?"
Choices
1. Accept the deal and assemble 12 teams.
2. Offer a lower number of troops.
3. Say no, outright.
Resolution
Haz'rd pondered for a moment, then said to the man, "'Kay, 36 men it is, but no more. Can't spare any more as it is. Not that you need to know that, just saying."
The so-so Maqku man gave one of those smiles he gave and said, "Thank you Haz'rd Vulp, we shall not forget this successful transaction any time soon. I will wait in the area until the teams are assembled and take them South my self."
Ninemeindrol
Prelude
The thoughts of what had transpired in history came slowly, but then rushed in as truths long forgotten became things known. There was once a great race, called the Qu, that rule Rist far and wide. Mellenias past without any strife by a living human, until divisions started to form.
A new technology, one that could combine with magic to shape the planet in an instant was created, and over this technology people wanted control. Two factions formed, and each claimed that it was them who needed it more for furthering Qu society.
When the first shots were fired the world heard it, and strife returned to the lands. In the end the world was divided into two, seperated by a vast mountain ranges. Maqku quickly pushed away technology, only recently starting to bring it back for its uses in agriculture. Aqku technology quickly evaporated, as the infrastructure to maintain equipment dissappeared.
This Ninemeindrol saw, and it was this he would have to ponder on.
Action
Much more introspection was done, and thought was put on the matter of how to unite the two people of the Qu. Ninemeindrol didn't know the answer to that, but there was still more meditation to do, and rules to follow. There were many months to go yet before his time as a monk was concluded, and plenty of thinking had to be done, regardless. It was after the time was done, that Ninemeindrol wondered about.
Choice
1. When reflection is done, set to rise in priesthood.
2. Spread the word about the Qu peoples.
Resolution
Ninemeindrol thought it over as one of the things he was to think on, and decided that the best way to have any real say in the matter of uniting the two factions of the Qu would be to rise in the priesthood. God willing he could even go back to his home and become the Pious just like that. It was unlikely, but Ninemeindrol believed it to be the best way about things. He had a very good feeling on it.
Semper Fidelis
Prelude
As the door opened it made a creaking noise that rattled the walls. They stepped inside of the room and saw only a wall with a strange device covering it. There were many lights blinking on it, and after only a few seconds a projection started playing.
There was sound that went along with it, but it was wholly undecipherable. The language almost seemed familair, but the words spoken couldn't be understood. Since it was only a projection of a man speaking, what was being said couldn't be translated.
Though, they thought, this was a discovery that must be brought to the Aqku lands.
Action
The hard part wouldn't be getting back, but returning to where they were. Even with the expertise of the mountaineers, there was still the difficulty of finding the place again.
Semper thought, and decided,
Choices
1. Leave two men and have them light fires one month from now.
2. Take everyone and leave as many markers as possible.
Resolution
Semper Fidelis thought it wise to bring all the men back with him. There was really little in the way of markers that could be set, but they used miscellaneous gear they thought they wouldn't need and dotted the immediate area with it. The other thing that they did was took careful note of the position of the stars, the way the moons rose and fell, and how long it took until the sun rose.
With what they could do done, they set off for land, hoping to return quickly enough that a snowfall or confusion would lead them not to direct the military back.
