Prelude, Choices, and Resolution
Haz'rd Vulp
Prelude
Another night of strange dreams, but only this time he didn't wake up in a cold sweat. It was morning when he woke, and a cold one at that. He recalled in his dream the hustle and bustle of a busy city, with only a handful of people walking on the ground, and most taking to the air.
Action
Two days in a row went by fairly uneventfully. People were still adjusting to calling Haz'rd's new name. Zarh'd was a quiet man, they said, but wily in the ways of war. The decendant of a true hero of the Vulpen people.
About the only thing of note was that a telegraph station had finally been built. The wiring had been in place before the ground froze, but the building wasn't fully constructed until the materials were brought in.
It was starting to turn out to be a rather uneventful Winter, which Haz'rd wasn't to sure he wanted to change or not. There was an issue of a newspaper that caught Haz'rd's eye. It made mention of the Maqku armies severing ties with the Vulpen people, and that there was a truce for the time being.
With this new office in the area, Haz'rd knew he could get much information, but only a request or two could really be made at any given time, and even then, only about broad subjects, but Haz'rd wondered.
It took the operator a little bit to get adjusted to using the equipment, but once it got up and running things went smoothly. There were five people staffed to the little structure, three that wrote down incoming transmissions, and two that translated.
There were a few test messages sent out, and a few early pieces of information gleaned. A few times troop movements came up about moving East in defense of an attack, but that was about it for that.
The only real way this would operate is if the reciever on the other end didn't realize that this was a Vulpen communications center. Originally it had been meant for Vulpen and Maqku forces to coordinate better, but since the problems began, its operation was rerouted, and it's address unknown. To the reciever though, its referred to as the VSS, or Vulpen Studying Station, hidden away in a remote location in the Vulpen controlled mountains.
After a couple of days, Haz'rd was able to get the information he was looking for. A handful of politicians called for wiping the Vulpen race out, while a slightly larger group said that relations should be repaired, as Vulpen warriors had proven themselves, and that the Vulpen people weren't bad as a whole, it only had a few bad eggs. A good sixty percent of politicians didn't care either way.
Once those bits of information were relayed, there was some miscellaneous stuff from another person sent. It talked about supposed attacks by the Vulpen people to the South East of their territory. As an almost knee jerk reaction once of the translators sent back a message saying that was absolutely false, but realized afterwards that saying something like that could break their cover. He said he'd look into it through some operatives in the Vulpen elders.
A couple days after the message was sent there was an odd transmission back. It seems that cover had been blown, as a Maqku politician wanted to arrange a meeting in Vulpen territory. They seemed to know about Haz'rd still being alive, but referred to him as Zarh'd anyway. Haz'rd was consulted, and it was arranged. About the only good that would come of it was that the politician, and his people, would allow the tower to keep recieving information. It was unknown whether or not this politicain was on their side, or against.
Semper Fidelis
Prelude
He kept coming back to what he had seen in the mountains. Thoughts about it came especially clear as the same scene outside flew by. Sand, sand, and some more sand passed outside of train, and Semper found it almost as sickenly as he did familair. He couldn't quite explain it too himself, but he had the urge to go back to the mountains. Perhaps another talk with his commanding officer when he got back would do him some good.
Action
Reaching the port town of Ameris was a simple enough journey. It was a relatively boring trip, all told, except for the thoughts. When he departed from the train it was nighttime, so Semper decided to get a room for the night, as the mayor's office wouldn't be open now anyway.
As Semper was finalizing getting a room at a inn not to far from where he needed to go, the inn keeper made mention that it was kind of dull in the area this time of year. It was odd, the inn keeper said, since a lot of business had shifted to another port town about thirty miles away in recent times. There were still plenty of fishermen, but them being out to sea and sending half their catch to another harbor didn't help business to much.
Semper thanked the man then rested. Using a trick he had honed himself on he was out cold very quickly. When he awoke the first thing he did was check his belongings. Finding everything to be in order he cleaned himself as best as he could, donned his officer's uniform, then took himself and his pack with him to the mayor's office.
He talked with a man at the desk and waited about twenty minutes before seeing the mayor. Still having his pack with him as he walked in he felt a little out of place with it. In his most proffesional manner he handed the letter to the mayor and went into a stance of a soldier waiting for an order.
The mayor kind of slumped into his seat, as he was standing, and spoke, "So this is how it ends?"
Semper looked at the mayor with a look of slight confusion, then trembled ever so slightly as a gun was pulled on him.
"You think you can take me out, do ya?!"
"Sir, I don't know what you're talking about," murmured Semper. "What's the cause of all of this?"
A scowl inside of the mayor's anger showed, and he commanded, "Empty the bag on my desk. Slowly!"
While the mayor's hand trembled Semper did as he was told, slowly. Out came piling some pieces of clothing and a knife. He would have brought his gun, but a rifle was a bit too large to carry around.
"Why was it in your bag, huh," the mayor asked, pointing at the knife.
"It is there, sir, because it is for defense. I wasn't coming here to use it, I was told to just bring the letter," the mayor relaxed slightly.
"Step away from my desk," Semper was told, and he did, "Are you being truthful," asked the mayor is a normal voice.
"Yes, sir, I am. I have no clue as to the contents of the bag... I mean letter."
A slight laugh escaped from the mayor, and he told Semper, "Sit down."
Semper sat, and said, "Thank you, sir."
The mayor paused for a moment, "It seems since either one of us was supposed to die today, we might as well have a talk."
Ninemeindrol
Prelude
Being a Pious was fairly simple work. A lot of it was more administrative then anything he was finding. Sign this, choose that, work on getting to have the people know you better. A lot of it was very dull work, but Ninemeindrol knew there would be reward for it all. He knew that him being in the position he was in would lead to some good being done.
Action
After about a week there was something to take his mind off the tediousness of being a new Pious. Inside of his area of control there was reports of a young boy with enourmous strength tearing up the hillside looking for a man called "Nine". Ninemeindrol used his connection with God to reach out, and found it was the same boy he had helped not all that long ago.
It was only a quick asking and Ninemeindrol found himself standing in front of the boy. There were tree stumps everywhere, and a large pile of logs neatly stacked in a triangle. It looked as though the boy was beyond perturbed.
When the boy saw Ninemeindrol he started shouting, "Make it stop, make the pain stop!"
Walking up to the boy Ninemeindrol placed a hand on his head. In the boy's mind he could feel rage, and at the very moment he lifted his hand up, the earth moved violently.
The boy went unconscious, while there was a feeling that in the Central Mountains a few peaks had just collapsed. It couldn't be explained, but there was this feeling of helping the boy, or investigating the mountains.
Nineimeindrol felt through the boys mind again, this time soothing it from its rage. There was very little mystical power around him, and that made a feeling of worry go through Ninemeindrol. He didn't understand whether or not something in the mountains caused this trouble, or if the boy had a different kind of connection to the Lord.
Lifting the boy up he moved himself and the boy back to the church where Ninemeindrol's residence was. The boy was unconscious and he tried to wake him. After a couple of tries Ninemeindrol just let him rest instead. There was this odd feeling, still, that something in the world wasn't quite right anymore.

- Choices
- Ask for information on the Maqku military.
- Ask about Maqku culture.
- Ask about Maqku politics.
