Prelude, Choices, and Resolution

Haz'rd Vulp
Prelude
Everything had been arranged and was prepared to go. Haz'rd had a feeling of worry as he wasn't knowing what to expect. A politician had some how known about the connection to the station, so that must have meant they were a part of the group he had met when he was down South. He could only hope that the politician would be friendly.

Action
Haz'rd was on the road at the correct spot where he was to meet with this politician. It was begginning to be high noon, and Haz'rd was happy there was shade under these trees, a slight wind to keep him cool.

While he was looking up feeling good he felt a tap at his shoulder. He turned around and a squat man that was nearly bald. Haz'rd said the first thing that came to mind, "Where'd you come from?"

The short man cleared his throat, "I come around," he paused for a moment, "I'm the one who contacted you through the communication device."

That didn't answer Haz'rd question, so he moved on, "What's it that you want?"

A smile mixed with a smirk crossed the man's face, "We'll get to that, but first bring out your troops."

Haz'rd wondered how the man knew about that, but then it crossed his mind that he was bluffing, "Why are you here?"

The man's smirk/smile turned into a grin, "The troops if you would? All forty-two of them."

There was the desire to growl, but Haz'rd held back and gave the signal instead. Slowly the troops came out from hiding. "Now," started the man, "Call forth the medic. You know which one."

Haz'rd paused for a moment, then spoke out, "Lea'ra, come here please."

A couple of seconds passed before she made her way inbetween some troops and stoop next to Haz'rd. "All right then," said the man while putting hands on Haz'rd and Lea'ra's shoulders, "Let's get to it then," and they were gone.

There was nothing but darkness, and then things came back into view. Haz'rd and Lea'ra were standing in what looked to be a Maqku kitchen. There were two cups in front of them on a table, filled with what smelled like tea, and three chairs around the table. They instictively sat down and took a sip.

While they did that the squat man came back into the room holding a book. He set the book on the table and sat down in the chair and looked at the two. "Well, Mr. Vulp I hear you'd like to form an alliance with the Aqku."

Haz'rd looked a bit puzzled, "So you're hear to stop that?"

The man chuckled, "I just transported you and your girlfriend here over ten thousand miles directly South. If the Maqku had that kind of ability they'd have won the war by now. No, I'm an Aqku pious that came to Maqku lands to infiltrate, if you would, heck, even made it into office.

"But what I'm here for is information gathering, and since I heard about the troubles between the Maqku and Vulpen I scanned the minds of Vulpen leaders and such. Sorry for the nightmares you've gotten, but I suppose you should know, since your people did help to create the Aqku and Maqku.

"Before I get too far ahead of myself, though, here's our proposel. We get unfettered access to Vulpen lands, you help us with relations to the vulpen people, in addition, we try to secure peace between our three civilizations."

Choices
  1. Accept the propesal, no changes.
  2. Accept the proposel, with some changes.
  3. Don't accept.
Resolution
Haz'rd paused for a moment, and said, "Er, uh, mmm, 'kay?"

"Exellent, we are agreed," spoke the man with haste, "Well, look at the time, I've got another meeting to attend too, sorry for the rush out, really. Best of luck, talk to you both soon," the Pious made a sound of a tongue clicking then Haz'rd and Lea'ra were standing back in the woods, with Haz'rd having his hand up as though he were about to speak.

Knowing that he probably didn't look like he was in the right state of mind, Haz'rd took the oppurtunity to look as though something important was going to come from him. He rose his arms into the air and formed two fists, then yelled to the gathered, "I have brokered peace with the Aqku, and the Maqku will never conquer us!"

Only for the shortest of moments was there a pause, and then? Then cheering broke out among the men. Even though they knew he was meeting with a Maqku politician, they couldn't help but feel overjoyed by this news. There was something slightly different about Haz'rd from that day on. He seemed to have a different tone to his voice, a stronger sense of accomplishment, a certain... no one knew quite what.

Ninemeindrol
Prelude
The boy had been sleeping for days. While some administrative duties were attended too, Ninemeindrol kept a close eye on the child. There was a fear that the boy would wake up while he was off investigating the mountains, and he couldn't risk that. He could always take the boy with him and make him immune to the damaging affects of the cold, but he held off as the boy began to stir.

Action
As the boy sat up he looked as though he had just been run over by a carraige. "How are you, my child," asked Pious Ninemeindrol.

The boy groaned, then replied, "I don't know. I feel... so strange."

Ninemeindrol nodded, "What have you seen?"

The boy looked up, "How did you know I've been seeing things?"

Giving a reassuring smile, "I am a Pious, my child, it is my duty to know."

Nodding the boy said, "I see the mountains crumbling, and huge towers made of metal taking their place. Then this thing that keeps glowing... and... and... anger."

"I do not know what is happening, but I will make it my duty to find out."

Choices
  1. Go to the mountains.
  2. Talk with the boy to try to get more information
Resolution
Ninemeindrol didn't know what was happening, he couldn't comprehend it quite rightly. He set out to find the answer to what was bothering the boy, so he made arrangements with the church administration, then took the boy and zipped to the mountains.

There was a groaning from the child, and as they moved closer to one particular range, the pain in the mind of the kid rose. He let out a sound that was akin to a scream, though very breif.

The two of them settled on one mountain, and Ninemeindrol made the boy sleep again. He asked God to help him see into this mountain, and when he did he found it very strange. In all of its entirety he could sense that it was hollow, with the rock of the mountain like a cone made of paper, though quite a bit thicker.

Ninemeindrol floated the two down and created a hole in the moutain wide enough so the two of them could fit through. As it finished there was a blast of hot air powerful enough that if Ninemeindrol hadn't shielded them from it as quickly as he did they both likely would have crisped over.

When he moved inside he looked directly down and saw it. It was beautiful and disgusting at the same time. What it was, however, he could not discern.

Semper Fidelis
Prelude
The mayor was more relaxed now, so Semper started from the beginning of his time as a leader. He touched on dealing with Aqky illusion, his time in the mountains, and since the commander was attempting to put him in harms way, about what was found.

Looking deep in thought the mayor said, "All right, now piss off."

A wave of confusion hit Semper, "W-what, sir?"

"I said piss off. Go back to your commander and tell him 'You're welcome,'" at this point the mayor handed Semper the note. On it was written, "Thanks for help with the thing. - Gladey"

Gathering his things Semper started towards the door in a huff. Before he got through the door the mayor called to him, "You did good kid. The last one tried to run. I had to shoot the poor kid."

Not really wanting to know what was going on just now, Semper closed the door and headed towards the train station.

Action
All along the trip to the base Semper's mind couldn't focus enough to think, so he just watched the desert go by. When he got back to base he went to see his commanding officer.

He heard the order to come in, then stood at attention. The CO told him to sit, and he did. "I bet you've got a lot of questions for me," said the commander.

Semper kind of shook his head, "Nope, not really," then he stopped to think for a quick moment while the commander just looked at him, "Well, I have wondered, what happened with the mayor?"

The commander smiled, "I'm glad you asked. We check to see if someone is trustworthy enough to recieve information we have gathered on the history of our people. It seems as though things in the world are quite strnage. So, what would you like to know?"

Choices
  1. What's in the mountains?
  2. Why are things strange?
  3. What's with the trustworthiness thing?
Resolution
Semper went straight to the thing that was bothering his mind the most, "What did my men and I find in the mountains?"

The commander was honest, "We're not sure what exactly you found, but it seems to be the same thing we've seen all over the ranges. As of yesterday we've gotten into about fourteen buildings. A crew just got back from the latest one.

"From what we gather there was a great civilization a long time ago that ruled both Maqku and Aqku territory. They didn't really use the land so much as stay in what are the mountain ranges of today. Then for some reasons, we don't really know yet, everything turned to shit.

"As far as we can tell all the buildings they were inhabiting drew up the rockbed from beneath them and created the mountains we see today. A few buildings survived, but it seems as though the vast majority didn't. What we've been finding have been recordings of the [em]survivors[/em]. We call them that because we don't want to think of what they were going through. Odds are they probably starved to death, the very thing that made them great destroying them.

"Why it is, exactly, that the catastrophe happened, we haven't the slightest idea, but we do know it had something to do with the Vulpen. The part that the linguists have gotten down seem to be 'Battle over the Phren has caused this to happen'. There are references shortly after about furry people with sharp vision and tails, and that's why we think that they're talking about the Vulpen.

"But, it's getting late right now. You're to tell no one of this, and you understand that if you let any of this get to someone who's not supposed to know, well, the Mayor let me know he told you what happened to the last recruit. That is all."
