Chapter 22

Haz'rd Vulp
Prelude
Every day Haz'rd went to the communications center that had been set to relay transmissions to his contact in Maqku lands. All the man could ascertain was that Maqku troops were being called back in an indefinate fashion, but that there was still a strong presence at the border. Public confidence fell when it was realized that nary an inch of Vulpen land was taken, and that thousands had died in the attempt.

Things were gloomy for the Aqku, who had taken the heaviest toll of life. Even with the Pious men about, the preachers giving strength, and all the healing going about, there were nearly ten thousand Aqku dead, and more then a couple of Pious men with them. That's what worried Haz'rd the most in all of this, that the Pious could be so easily killed. That for all their abilities of granting strength and seeing into what is yet to come, that they could be quelled by such simple means as metal means propulsion, or less.

With news of a stalemate the Aqku decided that they had done a great service to the Vulpen, and that their people would benefit from the trading of produce and technology that could occur. Many of the Aqku soldiers had grown accustomed to a certain crop of the Vulpen, and since many of them had been raised on a farm, they had taught methods of furthering yields. Even with Maqku and Vulpen minds working together, the Aqku claimed correctly that their means of breaking the ground, rotating crops, and distributing water were far greater then theirs.

A week after the stalemate was announced, the Aqku started to leave. Another week from that, over half the Aqku were gone, and by the end of the month, nearly all of them had left, save a few who wanted to stay. A few holy men were left in the center of the Vulpen lands to serve as a relay between the two entities.

Action
One day it seemed as though the truce was broken. A thousand Maqku started walking into the Southern border of the Vulpen lands. Scouts gave the information to the nearest Elders, and Vulpen were set to attack in return. The troops moved into a near deserted village, one that had just been lively a few hours before.

The commander of the Maqku force walked out in front of his men with his back to them, yelling out, "If any elder can hear me, show yourself!"

Minutes passed, and the men just stood there, waiting for a command. An elder walked out towards the commander, ever so slowly. Impatient, the commander walked up to the elder, before he had a chance to say anything the elder spoke, "You have violated treaty. Leave before you're all killed."

The commander stared at the elder for a moment, then talked in a level just above a whisper, "We were sent here to help the Vulpen people rebuild. I'm sure you know who Haz'rd Vulp is. We were sent under order by a mutual friend."

It took less then two days before Haz'rd was informed.

Choices
  • Let them help.
  • Tell them off.
  • Get the Maqku spread out in their work, in case they cross the Vulpen.

Shinobi
Prelude
Waking up Shinobi noticed his legs still dangling off of the cart. It was around noon when he fell asleep, and it now seemed that night was just decending. A few hours of walking around and pulling what little food from his belongings that he had to eat revealed that day was just breaking. He must have been tired for his body to have slept for so long a time.

He thought it best to wait for the people to come out of the homestead instead of bothering them. Looking around he could see that there were cows to tend too, and crops looking like they were ready for a probable second harvest. Though he had just noticed the cows, he saw a woman coming out from the stall, the same who had given him a lift. She set down the pail she had and walked to him.

"Now that you're awake go help Denkl with the milking. You won't be getting away with a free ride, you hear? 'Bout killed the horse to get here. So I figure you'll work the day, get two meals, a night of rest, breakfast after the morning chores of tomorrow, then be on your way."

Action
Shinobi stared at the woman for a moment and blinked a few times, then nodded. The woman turned and went back into the barn, completely ignoring Shinobi. It was at this point he noticed a the horse tethered nearby. Thinking quickly he grabbed his things and went to the horse. Untying the creature he hopped onto it's back and heard it neigh.

The woman came out and noticed Shinobi, who had gotten the horse moving in the direction of the mountains. She ran into the house just as the horse started moving quick. She came out just in time to shoot off an arrow from her hunting bow.

Shinobi was riding the horse like he was trying to race it, as he had seen once before. His ass was high in the air when he felt an extremely sharp pain in his behind, like he was backed up for days and trying to push a huge one through, except ten times worse.

Every time he tried to sit he felt the pain, then near noon he decided it was time to get off the horse and see what was going on. The pain was there when he got off the horse, and he felt even more as he reached behind him and felt the shaft of the arrow sticking out from him.

Choices
  • Rip it out.
  • Leave it in.

Ninja Monkey
Prelude
Stepping off he noticed the sweat had accumulated, and that he wasn't smelling to nice. He limped his way out, and got to a inn to stay at for a day or two until further accomadations could be found. There was a fair chance that his apartment that he had was long gone, and what family in the area probably wouldn't be much help. They were "proud" at the best of times, and seeing Ninja without a foot would probably not lead to bettered relations.

The first thing he did was go to the public bath there and cleanse himself of what felt like years of filth. He had gotten a few bathings while inprisoned, but it felt so much more gratifying to do it himself. Once finished there he went back into his room and pulled out a guide of the city he had gotten in the lobby. It had been a while, and he wanted to freshen his mind while he pondered on things.

Action
Walking around the city Ninja Monkey did start to feel refreshed. He felt as though a new day were dawning, at least somewhere in the world since it was afternoon. Walking into a tavern he got himself a little something to eat, something meaty, and juicy, so he did.

After he was done with the best burger he'd had in years, Ninja wondered what he was gonig to do with his time.

Choices
  • Spend time wisely.
  • Go out and enjoy life.

Semper Fidelis
Prelude
It wasn't until after he had been sent down to the planet that Semper realized he didn't have all that much to live on. The military probably thought him dead, and he wasn't in a quick hurry to return to them for some reason. He wanted to go back, but not quite yet, not with the information that he had. There had been a few things he had picked up in his stay in orbit, and one of them had been the names and locations of a few people planetside. He wanted to visit them, to talk to them privately. Then, if need be, to report them to the authorities.

Action
Going to a home he thought was of one of the people from orbit, he knocked on the door and was recieved by an elderly lady.

Choices
  • Question her.
  • Move away.
